Revaz Takidze

Revaz Takidze Revaz Takidze graduated from the piano department of the V. Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire (1966). In 1973 he continued his studies at the conducting department under the famous maestro  Odyssey Dimitriadi. Revaz Takidze has worked at his alma mater since 1967. He was the head of the opera department of the Conservatory from 2000-2013. Many students developed their operatic skills in performances staged under the musical direction of Revaz Takidze. Among them there are singers of world renown:  Paata Burchuladze, Nino Surguladze, Nino Machaidze, Ketevan Kemoklidze, Giorgi Gagnidze, etc. Nowadays he is the Emeritus Professor of the Tbilisi State Conservatoire.

Since 1975 Revaz Takidze has worked in the Tbilisi Z. Paliashvili State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. His repertoire includes about 50 opera and ballet productions. Together with the famous Georgian dancer and choreographer Vakhtang Chabukiani he staged the ballet "Gorda" by Davit Toradze and "La Bayadère" by Ludwig Minkus. While working on Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, he also collaborated with Mikhail Lavrovsky. The maestro continues to be the musical director of numerous premieres at the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theatre.

In 1985 Revaz Takidze and Zurab Anjaparidze staged Paliashvili's "Daisi" at the Yerevan State Opera and Ballet Theater. The maestro also conducted Gian Carlo Menotti's "Telephone" at the Yerevan Television Studio; Elvira Uzunyan sang in the production.

In 1991 Revaz Takidze together with the famous Georgian director Giga Lortkipanidze staged Viktor Dolidze's "Keto and Kote" and received the State Prize of the Republic of Georgia for this production.
In 1991 and 1996 he conducted at the final rounds of the Viktor Dolidze and Davit Andguladze International Voice Competitions, as well as the Transcaucasian Musicians Competition in Baku (1985) and the Republican Cello Competition.
 
In 2010-2013 Revaz Takidze was the chief conductor of the student orchestra of the Tbilisi State Conservatory, which played with famous musicians: Liana Isakadze, Alexander Korsantia, Khatia Buniatishvili and others.

Revaz Takidze also frequently performs as a conductor of symphonic music. He has collaborated with such famous artists as: Z. Anjaparidze, N. Andghuladze, I. Kavsadze, T. Gugushvili, E. Getsadze, Sh. Kiknadze, I. Shushania, T. Mushkudiani, L. Tchkonia, M. Amiranashvili, O. Kuznetsova, M. Bieșu, N. Martinuch, E. Marx, M. Iashvili, T. Gabarashvili, Z. Sotkilava, M. Kasrashvili, A. Takidze, T. Amirejibi, A. Nizharadze, S. Dyche, R. Tavadze, R. Gorelashvili, E. Mujiri, D. Shafran, M. Pletniov, B. Berezovsky and many others.

Revaz Takidze has conducted recitals of Georgian composers Otar Taktakishvili, Nikoloz Gudiashvili, Vazha Azarashvili, Ramaz Karukhnishvili, Elizbar Lomdaridze as well as Georgian symphonic music evenings. He has conducted on tours in Romania, Israel, Malta, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, etc.

Revas Takidze is editor-in-chief and editor of several vocal scores and scores of Georgian operas prepared and published by the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theater.
